PSSA / Multi Sports Gymnastics Swimming Carnivals
Newtown North Public School aims to build fitness, confidence and skills in a wide range of sports. In order to ensure that students receive quality instruction and skill development we utilise specialist teachers and professional associations where appropriate.
A gymnastic program is provided by Australian Gymnastics. In term one primary students attend a weekly lesson while infants participate in terms two and three. Second and third term Primary students attend a multi-sport program run by Sydney University Sports Association allowing participation in a wide variety of sports including European handball, lacrosse, judo, netball, soccer and hockey. In term four, all students have a weekly swimming lesson at Sydney University with all levels catered for from non-swimmer to squad level.
Students in Primary have opportunities to compete in inter-school competition both as part of a team through our involvement with the Primary School Sport Association (PSSA) inter-school competition, or individually. Each year we field a number of teams for soccer and netball. We also send students to both District swimming and athletics carnivals. Every year students progress to Regional level competitions
